Women Human Rights Defenders - Honoring Florence Adong-Ewoo

29/11 marked International Women Human Rights Defenders Day. On this occasion, many voices around the globe have risen to acknowledge the tremendous work achieved by women human rights defenders, and to thank them for their tireless efforts and countless sacrifices. The Association of Women's Rights in Development pays tribute to the activists who are no longer with us, through an online gallery of portraits, turned into pieces of art by artist and activist Vienna Rye.

The Tribute features over 400 courageous feminists and activists from 11 regions and 80 countries. It is with great emotion that we share that Florence Adong-Ewoo is one of them. The Making It Work team had the honour to work with her under our partnership with the Lira District Disabled Women Association in Uganda. Florence held the position of Chairperson for LIDDWA, as well as the Lira District Women Councilors’ caucus. She was a disability rights activist and trained as a counsellor for persons with disabilities and parents of children with disabilities. She supported many projects that called for greater representation of persons with disabilities. She was a natural leader, a strong woman and an inspiration to many.

May we bring her legacy in our fight for women and girls with disabilities.
