Promoting the Right to Work for Women and Men with Disabilities

Promoción del derecho al trabajo y empleo de las personas con discapacidad desde una perspectiva de género en El Salvador

This Making it Work project is being implemented in El Salvador on the topic of employment of people with disabilities (CRPD article 27), with a specific focus on gender. Two disability organizations co-ordinate the project:

One of the good practices collected by the project was about the company Unilever, a global corporation. Unilever in El Salvador has been proactive on inclusion, complying with, and often exceeding, national regulations on hiring of people with disabilities. As a result of advocacy activities, Unilever offered a 1-year consultancy to one of the women leading the project, so that she may design some specific activities to assist their offices on inclusion issues throughout Central America. As a result, this woman designed a consultancy project, again utilizing the Making it Work methodology, to research and document examples of good practices within Unilever and generate recommendations. This was used as the basis for a training programme that she now provides to staff. This small-scale, DPO-led Making it Work project will now have achieved impact on Unilever throughout Central America, and perhaps globally!
