In all countries of the world, there are innovative projects and good practices that have achieved real impact in addressing the barriers experienced by people with disabilities.  However, there is currently no shared mechanism for exchanging these good practices -- and innovative ideas-- among international, regional, national and local partners.

MIW is an initiative designed to address these needs.

The idea of MIW is to develop MIW projects that collect and exchange these examples of good practices and then use these experiences to advocate for good policies that are in line with the CRPD.

At the international level, the MIW Team and International Advisory Committee support the planning and development of MIW projects in low and middle income countries. These are projects that aim to bridge the gap that exists between the standards set by the CRPD and the reality on the ground for persons with disabilities.  The objective is to promote disabled people's full access to their human rights-- by documenting and sharing examples of good practices (what has worked on the ground) and using this to advocate for inclusive policies in line with the CRPD.

The purpose of the MIW Initiative is to inspire practitioners, policy makers and advocates in their effective implementation of the CRPD. We support Civil Society, including disabled persons organizations (DPOs), development NGOs and service providers to advocate for human rights and inclusive policies through:

  • Improving research and information management;
  • Collecting and exchange good practices;
  • Increasing of quality of practices at all levels;
  • Improving information dissemination;
  • Enhancing the effectiveness and scale of advocacy initiatives.

The desired outcome of MIW is to support local organizations in working with policy makers and governments to create changes in policy on
local, national, and regional levels.
