Why should my organization use the Making it Work methodology?
Making it Work is a flexible approach that can be adapted by different types of organizations, at different levels, to address a very wide range on disability issues (rehabilitation, emergency, education, livelihoods ...). It should be seen as complementary to existing organizational strategies. It can also be used to develop baseline studies or to reinforce existing projects according to evidence of what is already working well.
Contributing to, and benefiting from, a collaborative initiative:
- The goals of inclusive development and effective implementation of the CRPD will not be achieved by organizations working in isolation
- Documenting good practices and drawing out recommendations is a learning and empowering process for all organizations involved.
- The Making it Work Good Practice Database offers a global platform for sharing solutions for inclusive development. This can reinforce collective efforts to implement the CRPD and inspire actors and agencies around the world.
Being more efficient on advocacy
- If advocacy is based on research and documented evidence it is more likely to be seen as credible and legitimate. This is especially the case if several organizations are seen to be working together
- Decision-makers are more likely to listen to practical, realistic, evidence-based recommendations than to campaigns about human rights violations
Raising organisational profile on the CRPD
- Making it Work is a way to analyze and improve the practices of your organization and others
- Producing a Making it Work publication will raise the profile of an organization’s work on inclusive development and raise the profile of disability as a key human rights and development issue
